It's after midnight here on the East Coast, so this is going to have to be a premature "Most Important Thing" tonight. There are, undoubtedly, a number of things vying for my attention tonight. Francoeur continues to hit the ball well. Jacobs put one off the wall with a broken bat. David Wright jumped all over a ball for his third home run of the young season.
But tonight's MIT is a little more ephemeral than all of that: I love the way these Mets have been fighting back. Sure, it may just be that it's April. Maybe it's just that the Mets have been playing bad teams who are letting them crawl back into the games. But for now, I'm going to give my boys the benefit of the doubt. The Mets have hung in there in most of their games this season, and I'm really liking what I see.
After blowing an early 3-1 lead tonight, the Mets spent several innings fighting back to tie the game in the top of the ninth...
.... and just like that, of course, Chris Iannetta just ended the game.
But my point stands. The Mets really scrapped tonight, on the road, to come back. The other game which really stands out to me this year was the second game of the year, when the Mets battled back from 6-1 to tie the game and force extra innings.
In what may become a common thread for this season, they lost both games. The current edition of this team is going to lose a LOT of games, it looks like. But so long as they keep fighting their way back into games, they are going to win some of them. And even if they lose far more than they win, I'm not going to give up on a team that doesn't give up on me. If they keep it up. I'll be watching all year.

[1] As a side note, did anyone else hear what Keith Hernandez was talking about as the Mets were returning from commercial before the fifth or sixth inning? He said something like "...and I just had to sit down and stare at her." I don't have TiVO, but if you do, please let me know exactly what he said! It sounds like the microphone might have come on unexpectedly and Keith was pulling a Keith. Either way, I am curious because I was only half paying attention.

I didn't hear that particular comment, but Keith sounded as if he was on the rag last night. He even barked at Bill Webb for missing a camera angle. I think the team's subpar play is really getting to him.
Wally Backman should manage this team and Keith should be his bench coach and Ron Darling the pitching coach. Then, we could have Omar and Jerry do the play-by-play for a winning team. That would be very funny.
